The quarterly meeting of the Division of Energy and Environmental Engineering of the Academy was held on Wednesday, November 2nd, with the presence of a number of Academy members, university professors and executive experts in the Abu Reyhan Hall of the Academy.


At the beginning, Prof. Masoud Tajrishi, chairman of the Climate Changes and Environment Think Tank of the Academy, welcomed the participants and pointed out the role of the Academy in facing the country's challenges and presented a summary of the upcoming programs (especially setting up various working groups) in this field.


Then, Prof. Mohammad Hassan Panjeshahi, the head of the Division, gave a summary of the current status of waste in the country. Prof. Panjeshahi also enumerated the most important challenges in this field: ignoring the compliance with the laws, absence of law enforcement, lack of modification of consumption patterns and the reduction of waste generation, improper implementation of waste segregation, the non-formulation of a comprehensive executive plan for waste management, and the absence of accurate statistics and quantitative information.


Afterwards, Dr. Masoud Ahmadi, the adviser to the head of the organization of municipalities and rural areas of the Ministry of Interior on waste management, presented a report on the status of waste management in the country. Dr. Ahmadi stressed the need to apply a comprehensive management approach with an emphasis on preserving the environment as one of the country's infrastructures, and considered the current situation based on an economic approach to the issue to create problems in this field.

- Dr. Nader Mokhtarani, professor of Tarbiat Modares University and chairman of the Waste Management Working Group of the Climate Changes and Environment Think Tank of the Academy
