Presided over by Prof. Aref, the 23rd meeting of the Commission for the Advancement of Mathematics was held semi-virtually on Thursday, September 29th.

 

The attendees consisted of Profs. Faraji Dana, Toomanian, Towfighi, Jabbehdar Maralani, Sohrabpour, Mohammadzadeh, Ghasemi Honari, Rejali and Abdollahi.

 

At the beginning, the report of the Commission's Specialized Workgroup on some measures, including the negotiations held regarding Farhangian University and the recruitment of faculty members in this university, was discussed. After the exchange of views, it was agreed that the Workgroup of the Commission would summarize the considerations and suggestions so that the considerations and suggestions of the Commission would be reflected in a meeting attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and Farhangian University.

 

Then, Prof. Toomanian and Prof. Mohammadzadeh presented reports on the newly established Workgroups of "School Test", "Standards of School Subjects" and "Elementary Education" and made suggestions to present to the relevant authorities. It was agreed that the issues raised in the Workgroup of the Commission would be summarized and the final report would be presented to the Commission. Regarding elementary education, Prof. Faraji Dana suggested "sharpening the role of real stakeholders, including industry and commerce, in the quality of elementary education”. While welcoming this proposal, it was decided that the Department of Engineering Science of the Academy and the Specialized Workgroup of the Commission would prepare a plan in this regard and submit it to the Commission.

 

Following the recommendation of the Commission's Specialized Workgroup to invite the Minister of Education, Prof. Aref gave some details about the invitation of the Academy to the Minister of Education. Prof. Toomanian and Prof. Mohammadzadeh will participate in the above meeting as the representatives of the Commission for the Advancement of Mathematics and present the most important suggestions and considerations raised in the Commission's meetings regarding education issues.

 

At the concluding part of the meeting, after the exchange of opinions, it was decided to prepare and send a letter to the Administrative Recruitment Affairs Organization regarding the necessity of including the Bachelor Degree in Mathematics in general recruitment advertisements.
